Langkawi Sky Bridge – Malaysia
Please note that the Langkawi Sky Bridge and the cable car system closes during the first two weeks of April for yearly maintenance. You can get accurate information from their website; panoramalanglaiwi.com.
Most people that visit Malaysia eventually go to the friendly, laid-back island of Langkawi. Travelers that come to Langkawi can expect to see pristine beaches, endless mangroves, and acres of lush jungle. Visitors have a lot of different options to choose from as far as day trips go. There are a couple of boat excursions on offer. One is of the mangroves, and another popular one is a trip to the western islands. My favorite attraction, however, is the Langkawi Sky Bridge.
Langkawi Sky Bridge
Both the cable car ride up and the Langkawi sky Bridge platform will reward you with a stunning view of the surrounding sea and jungle. The bridge is known for being the longest free span and curved bridge in the world. The Sky Bridge is about 100 meters high and 125 meters in length. It swings out over a valley next to Gunung Mat Chinchang mountain and sits 660 meters above sea level.
To get up to the Langkawi Sky Bridge, you need to drive a few minutes north of Teluk Burau village. This drive takes about 30-minutes to get to by car from the famous tourist town of Pantai Cenang. If you don’t have a car, you will need to hire a taxi. I always use Uber or Grab instead of taxis because it is usually cheaper. I paid about USD 5 each way with Grab.
The cable car up to Sky Bridge starts at the Oriental Village, which is a tourist park with lots of different attractions. The cable car ride up takes approximately 15 minutes, and a return trip costs about USD8 for Malaysian residents and USD 15 for foreigners. On the way up you can make a stop to one of a few viewing platforms. Once you reach the top, you will need to buy a separate ticket for the Sky Bridge. (USD 2)
Oriental Village
Although there are places to buy food, drinks, and souvenirs along the way up to the Sky Bridge, there are many more options in the Oriental Village. You can purchase tickets for the cable car up to the Sky Bridge in the village. There are plenty of maps, and signs posted within the park that will show you the way to the ticket office. If you combine the price of a cable car ride up with some of the other attractions in the park, you can get a small discount.
Cable Car Ride
This ride can get a bit steep when you approach the top. I’m not afraid of heights, but I will admit I was a bit nervous at times. Either way, the view that you will get is worth the effort to get to the top! You can pay more for a cable car with a glass bottom.
Viewing Platforms
There are a few different viewing platforms where you have access to spectacular views from different angles of the mountain.
Sky Bridge
The Sky Bridge hangs high above a valley and has a small section with a glass walkway that you can cross over. But please take your shoes if you walk on the glass!
I didn’t visit any of the other attractions in the Oriental Village, but you can find out more information about the park at panoramalangkawi.com. If you are planning a trip to Malaysia and want more accurate data, then you can visit Tourism Malaysia’s website.
