Clown Motel – Tonopah NV
The Clown Motel – Tonopah NV is not just your ordinary small town Nevada accommodation; this place is rumored to be haunted! For that reason, and because a lot of people have a fear of clowns this popular attraction is often called America’s Scariest Motel. I didn’t know any of this before I entered the main office that houses an array of creepy, yet fascinating collections of over 600 clown collectibles.
I discovered The Clown Motel – Tonopah NV while driving from Vancouver to Las Vegas. At the time I had been driving for almost 15 hours and knew that I wasn’t going to make it to Vegas without some rest. Being on a tight budget led me to The Clown Motel (45 USD a night at the time of this writing ).

The friendly staff at The Clown Motel greeted me upon arrival and shared a bit of local history with me about the motel and the town. They told me they think the Clown Motel is haunted because of The Old Tonopah Cemetary that was situated next door.
I also learned that Omar Gosh TV filmed one of their episodes here while staying at The Clown Motel. Hearing about this video creeped me out, but made me curious as well! I love finding unexpected stuff like this when I travel!

Ghost Hunting
The staff told me that a few of these clowns have been known to move around, and even one of them can turn up randomly in some of the rooms. They also told me to check out the Clown Motel video on YouTube.
I have to say that I do not believe in ghosts, goblins, or leprechauns. However, after watching the YouTube video on The Clown Motel Tonopah NV, I will admit I did sleep with the bathroom light on in my motel room. Honestly, I was so tired that it would have taken more than one loud obnoxious ghost to wake me up that night!
The rooms are a little dated, but they include all the main amenities and the price is right at USD $45. I stayed in room lucky number 113. The staff assured me that none of the ghosts ever visit this room.
Luckily, I had no visitors the night I stayed at The Clown Motel. Just by chance, I discovered this Youtube video from a bunch of guys that also stayed in room 113, and they did have a visitor during the night. Check it out!
Unexpected Guest
Tonopah is about 4 hours away from Vegas and has plenty of motels, casinos, restaurants, and 24 hr gas stations. I had a great night sleep at The Clown Motel, Tonopah. I recommend staying here just for the fun and adventure of being in a haunted motel. Even if you are a non-believer like myself.
The Clown Motel, Tonopah NV is one of the highlights from my 2018 road trip across the USA. I hope to stay here again someday and maybe explore more of Tonopah.
