PG Gold Museum – George Town
PG Gold Museum – George Town
If you plan on staying in George Town Panang for a few nights, you may decide to check out some of the cities museums. There are a lot of them! Some of the museums have a lot of history of Panang and Malaysia like the PG Gold Museum – George Town.
A lot of the museums in George Town are modern, so they tend to have little history or none at all. These places are more like fun attractions, not museums so you may want to do some research first. The haunted museum, the upsidedown museum, and the Science Museum are some excellent examples of fun museums. These “fun’ museums are great for getting cool pictures, and for sharing a few laughs with family and friends so bring your camera!

History & Mining Process
No matter how big or small the tour group is, you will have a knowledgeable guide take you through the museum to explain everything. The first thing my guide did was walk me through the different processes of mining and refining gold and silver so you will have a good idea of how everything works.
My guide explained how the Karate grading system worked.
Panning for Gold
After the history, and refining part we got to pan for gold! Panning for gold is a fun activity, and after we finished I realized that becoming a gold miner was probably not a suitable fit for me! I will stick to investing in gold and let the professionals do the mining.
Finished Product
After my unsuccessful attempt to pan for gold(I found two small pieces), we went into a section that had some real gold bars on display. You can touch some of the gold and silver bars.
Investors buy and trade gold and silver in a variety of different sizes. In this display, you can see the gold in the form of coins, and bars. The gold comes in 1 ounce, 5 ounces, 1/5 Kilogram, and in 1 Kilogram bars. An ounce of gold goes for about 1350 USD an ounce! (2018)
The museum has a display with a lot of old and new tools that are used to mold gold and silver into bars and wafers.
Molding to Perfection
Last but not least, an expert goldsmith molded some silver into a 1-kilogram bar.
If you have a large budget, you can purchase gold and silver bars in the museum gift store.
I decided to visit this museum because recently I have been reading up on investing in gold and other hard assets, as well as trying to figure out how to put gold into my RRSP fund for retirement. I found this museum to give me a better understanding of how difficult it is to find and refine gold and silver making it so valuable.
Please add a comment below if you know of any other interesting gold museums around the globe, and if anybody would like to share their experience investing gold into an RRSP or retirement a plan, please send me an e-mail at infotravelcanbecheap.com.
