Bangkok Chao Phraya Tourist Boat
Bangkok Chao Phraya Tourist Boat
If you are looking for a quick and easy way to see some favorite sites in Bangkok, I would suggest giving the Bangkok Chao Phraya tourist boat a try. It’s cheap, efficient, and the most convenient way to get around the tourist sites. The Bangkok Chao Phraya tourist boat, run by Chao Phraya, stops at most piers along the Bangkok river. They also have English speaking guides that can give you some good advice about the area.
Price
You can buy a full day unlimited pass for 5 USD or 1.50 USD for a single trip. The boat runs from 9:00 until 18:00, but check out their website for the latest prices and schedule; Chao Phraya. You can buy tickets at the various docks or online from their website.
However, if you are adventurous and want to save a bit of money, you can also take one of the many local boats to these piers. Usually, these boats are overcrowded so you will need to stand, but the docks are close, and it doesn’t take long to get to each stop. A lot of tourists will use the local boats, so it’s not unusual for westerners to be onboard.
My Bangkok Chao Phraya Boat Itinary
I started my tour at the first pier; Sathron(Central)Pier. You can get to this pier by the BTS(Bangkok Transit System). Hop on the Silom Line and stop at Saphan Taksin Metro stations, then walk to the river. My hotel was close to this station, so I just walked. I bought my ticket at the pier. However, it was a bit chaotic when I got there. There were a lot of touts trying to sell different tour packages and other touristy things.
You can start at any port you like, but make sure you tell the guides which direction you want to go, so you get to your next destination. I used Maps.me on my phone to see when I was getting close to the next pier, and I’m sure Google maps would also be useful. The guides can help you with getting to your preferred stop.
Flower Market
My first stop was the Pakklong Taladd Flower Market(stop 6).
Chinatown
The Yaowarat area(Chinatown) has lots of little side streets, and busy alleyways to explore. You could spend a long time here looking at all the exciting things the street vendors are selling.
Khao San Road
I went to the last boat stop, N13, and walked to Khao San Road; known as the famous backpacker mecca. This area is known for having lots of cheap guesthouses, hostels, restaurants, shops, and bars. Khao San Road is an adventurous place to walk around during the day, and night.
Wat Arun
Wat Arun was one of my favorite stops because I liked the detailed of the sculptures that align the outer walls of the Wat.
I must add that I did not go to the most popular attraction, the Royal Palace. I ran out of time, and Wat Arum was only 1.50 USD to enter, which is much less than the 16 USD it is to visit The Royal Palace.

You can see many different tourist attractions along the Bangkok River.
