What to do in Phoenix, Arizona
During a recent road trip across the United States, I ventured through Arizona state and decided to spend a day in the state’s capital Phoenix. In this post, I will give you a few ideas on what to do in Phoenix.
Phoenix is also known as the Valley of the Sun because of its warm desert climate. The city and surrounding areas can get suffering hot during the summer months. Fortunately, my trip to Phoenix was during November when winter temperatures were not too warm.
What to do In Phoenix
I only had one day to explore Phoenix, and the weather was perfect for outdoor activities, so I decided to visit the Desert Botanical Garden and hike Camel Back Mountain.
Desert Botanical Garden
The cost of Desert Botanical Garden is about 25 USD per adult. You can get directions, the most recent ticket prices, and the parks hours of operation from the Desert Botanical Garden website. The garden has a large variety of unique cacti from all around the world.
There are several short hikes within the park, so you may want to plan to stay a couple of hours here. It’s a good idea to check out the website for any special events. For example, in December the park has a special light show set up for the holiday season.
Hike Camelback Mountain
Camelback Mountain is a short hike that will reward you with a stunning view of the city. Plan for at least 2 or more hours of hiking for a return trip. Camelback Mountian is listed as a challenging hike, but that depends on your level of fitness. There are a few steep parts, and the peak gets close to 1,300 feet or 400 meters. Be sure to wear proper hiking shoes, sunscreen, and bring some water so you can stay hydrated. It can get hot while hiking under the desert sun.
The mountain is called Camelback because of its unique shape that resembles a camel. If you’re not sure if you are fit enough for the hike give it a try, you can always turn around if it gets to be too much.
This visit to Phoenix was just a quick stop along my vast journey across the United States. There are plenty of great things to do in Phoenix. Hopefully, I will get to come back in the future so I can share more ideas of what to do in Phoenix.
